उन्होंने कहा कि सत्य की आराधना करने वाले पत्रकार के सामने हमेशा चुनौती रही है। सत्ता के लिए लिखने वालों के लिए कोई चुनौती नहीं होती। इन सबके बीच पत्रकारों को जनसंवेदनाओं के साथ रहना चाहिए। जनसंवेदनाओं के साथ जुडकर लिखने वालों की समाज में विश्वसनीयता रहती है जो पत्रकारिता के लिए बहुत आवश्यक है। इससे पहले मुख्य वक्ता और अन्य अतिथियों ने दीप प्रज्जवलन करके समारोह का विधिवत शुभारम्भ किया। सांस्कृतिक संस्था हंसा ग्रुप के कलाकारों ने इंदेश्वरी ममगाई के दिशा निर्देशन में गढ़वन्दना की मनमोहक प्रस्तुति दी। उत्तराखंड पत्रकार महांसघ की ओर से अतिथियों को पुष्पगुच्छ, स्मृति चिन्ह भेंटकर और शाल ओढाकर सम्मान किया गया। समारोह में विशिष्ट अतिथि वरिष्ठ पत्रकार, इतिहासविद और डीएवी महाविद्यालय के पूर्व प्राचार्य डा देवेन्द्र भसीन ने अतीत से वर्तमान तक पत्रकारिता के मापदंडों में बदलाव का जिक्र करते हुए वर्तमान में बाजारवाद को पत्रकारिता के लिए सबसे बड़ी चुनौती करार दिया। उन्होंने कहा कि इससे सम्पादकों की स्थिति कमजोर हो रही है और इस गहन चिंतन किए जाने की आवश्यकता है।
उन्होंने यह भी कहा कि इसके बावजूद जो लोग सही दिशा में काम करते हैं। उनकी पहचान होती है। समझौता करने वाले पीछे रह जाते है। डा. भसीन ने कहा कि निरपेक्ष भाव से काम करने वाले पत्रकारों और अखबारों को ही जनता मान्यता देती है। डिजीटल और सोशल मीडिया के दौर में बातों को छिपाया नहीं जा सकता। इसलिए सही दिशा में चलते रहे। हिन्दी पत्रकारिता का भविष्य बहुत अच्छा है बस जनता का भरोसा नहीं टूटना चाहिए। विशिष्ट अतिथि साहित्यकार और देवकमल पत्रिका के सम्पादक राम प्रताप मिश्र साकेती ने कहा कि हमें अधिकारों के प्रति कम और कर्तव्यों के प्रति अधिक सजग होना चाहिए। उन्होंने कहा कि पत्रकारों का काम तलवार की धार पर चलने जैसा है। जरा सी चूक आघातकारी हो सकती है इसलिए पत्रकारों को चाहिए की कि नारद धर्म का पालन करें और समाज की भावनाओं को उठाते रहें।
